Gold prices closed lower on Tuesday, giving back a portion of the previous day’s gains but holding ground above $1,250 an ounce.
Gold for April delivery fell $8.70, or 0.7%, to settle at $1,251.20 an ounce.
Metals-mining shares followed gold lower, with the Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index losing 0.6%. The SPDR Gold Trust exchange-traded fund lost 0.7%.
Gold futures on Monday jumped by more than $20 an ounce, propelled by a disappointing report on U.S. manufacturing.
